General FAQ
(Please check the Adoption FAQ for any questions related to adopting from Kawakuji.)
1. What is Kawakuji Animal Rescue?
Kawakuji is an animal rescue organization run by a small team of volunteers in Ibaraki, Japan. We particularly focus on rescuing the most vulnerable populations of animals, such as neonatal kittens and animals with significant medical issues. Kawakuji is also involved with TNR projects in the area.
2. What is TNR?
Trap, Neuter, Return. This process involves humanely trapping feral cats, getting them neutered/spayed, and then finally releasing them back at their original location. TNR plays a critical role in reducing the feral cat population and saving the lives of millions of kittens who would be born on the streets.
3. How can I support Kawakuji?
If you are able, we always appreciate donations. As a small organization, we rely entirely on donations to cover expenses.
For one time donations, please check out our Amazon wishlist, Ko-fi or PayPal. If you are interested, we also have a Patreon for monthly donations that start at as low as $3. Thank you!
4. Where can I follow Kawakuji?
We are most active in our Facebook group, but we have an Instagram as well! Please give us a follow if you want to get updates on what we're up to or if you just want to see cute cat pics. 😻
5. How can I contact Kawakuji?
Please send us an email at [email protected]. This is the best way to ensure that we will receive your message! If you don't hear back in 3-5 business days, please send us another email.
** Adoption FAQ**
1. I'm interested in adopting! What do I need to do?
All potential adopters must first fill out and submit the Kawakuji adoption application form. If your application is approved, we can move forward with the other procedures. For the full process, please check here.
2. Is it possible to only adopt one of the cats listed as a pair?
We only adopt out individual cats if they arrived to us as a singleton. The reason we require some of our cats to be adopted together is because they are a bonded pair. Many of the kittens in our care arrive in litters, so they are attached to their siblings and would not do well alone.
3. Why is a phone hour interview and home visit required?
These procedures allow us to get to know potential adopters and help us make the best decisions for our animals. We want to ensure that once an animal is adopted, they will be in the most compatible forever home.
4. Is there an adoption fee?
Yes, the standard adoption fee is 20,000 yen per animal. All animals who are adopted from Kawakuji have been vaccinated, microchipped, FIV/FeLV tested, dewormed, and spayed/neutered. The adoption fee helps cover these medical costs.
5. What is the best way to contact Kawakuji about adoption questions?
